A group of experienced American professionals has accused Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) of illegal discrimination based on their race and age, as reported by the Wall Street Journal. The complaints were filed with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
According to the complaints, TCS allegedly terminated the employment of these individuals and transferred some of their work to lower-paid Indian immigrants on temporary work visas. At least 22 workers have filed complaints against TCS since late December. TCS’s clients include numerous large companies in the US.
The former TCS employees who filed the complaints represent diverse racial backgrounds, including Caucasians, Asian-Americans, and Hispanic Americans. They range in age from their 40s to their 60s and reside in more than a dozen US states. Many of them hold advanced degrees such as masters of business administration.
The complaints allege that TCS showed preferential treatment towards Indian workers in the US who hold highly sought-after visas. However, a TCS spokeswoman refuted these claims, stating that they are unfounded and misleading. The company asserts that it is committed to being an equal opportunity employer in the US and conducts its operations with integrity.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, based in Washington, DC, is responsible for enforcing federal laws that prohibit discrimination in the workplace. While they have the authority to pursue federal charges against violators of these laws, a commission spokesperson declined to comment on a specific case due to confidentiality concerns.
