Any person working in the unorganized sector can apply for an e-shram card through which they can get various benefits such as death insurance, pension after 60 years, and other types of financial aid in case of incapacity. What is the Unorganised Sector?
The unorganized sector consists of the units or establishments engaged in the production or sale of goods and services and has employed less than 10 workers. These units should not be covered under the EPFO and ESIC Act. Employees working in companies classified as unorganized sector can apply for e-shram cards.
What are e-Shram Card Benefits?
An e-shram card will provide the employees of the unorganized sector with the following benefits –
- A pension of Rs.3000 per month after reaching the age of 60 years.
- A death insurance of Rs.2,00,000 and financial aid of Rs.1,00,000 if the worker is partially handicapped.
- If the beneficiary of the e-shram card dies, the benefits are given to his/her spouse.
- The beneficiaries will also receive a 12-digit UAN number, which is valid throughout India.
What is the Eligibility Criteria for e-Shram Card?
- Any person working in the unorganized sector is eligible for an e-shram card.
- The worker should be 16-59 years old.
- The workers should have their mobile number linked with the Aadhaar card
The e-Shram card application can be submitted either through the Common Service Centre (CSC) or the e-Shram portal. Those eligible can visit the nearest CSC center to apply for the e-Shram card, and the e-Shram portal helps locate the nearest CSC center by entering the state and district information.

- Go to the e-Shram portal’s self-registration page.
- Input the Aadhaar-linked mobile number, captcha code, and click ‘Send OTP.’
- Receive the OTP on the registered mobile number and enter it, then click ‘Validate.’
- Confirm the personal details present on the screen.
- Provide necessary information, including address and educational qualifications.
- Choose the skill name, and specify the nature of the business and type of work.
- Enter bank details and select self-declaration.
- Click ‘Preview’ to review the entered details, then click ‘Submit.’
- Receive another OTP, enter it, and click ‘Verify.’
- The e-Shram card is generated and displayed on the screen.
- Optionally, download the e-Shram card by clicking on the download option.

How to download e-Shram card
After submitting the e-shram card application, proceed with the steps below to download the card:
- Go to the e-Shram portal.
- Click on the ‘Already Registered’ tab and choose the option to ‘Update/download UAN card’.
- Provide the date of birth, UAN number, and captcha code, and click ‘Generate OTP.’
- Enter the OTP received on your mobile and click ‘Validate.’
- Confirm the displayed personal details.
- Click on ‘Preview’ to review the entered details and then click ‘Submit.’
- Receive another OTP, enter it, and click ‘Verify.’
- The e-Shram card is generated and shown on the screen.
- At this time, you can download the e-Shram card by clicking on the download option
How to Download an Already Registered e-Shram Card?
- Visit the e-shram portal and click on the tab named ‘already registered’.
- Select the ‘Update/download UAN card’ option.
- Provide the details required, like the UAN number, captcha code, and date of birth. Now, click on ‘generate OTP’.
- Submit the OTP received on the mobile number and click on ‘validate’.
- Confirm these details. Click on ‘Preview’ and check the details. Now, click on submit.
- Submit the OTP received on your mobile number to complete OTP verification. Now, click on verify.
- The e-shram card is generated, and you can click on the download option
